RESONATE: Playful Percussion

back to events

Hosted by Martin O’ Donoghue. 35 minutes . Free . Suitable for 5 - 105 year olds.

An inclusive percussive performance, influenced by bronze age rituals and ceremony involving music, movement and entrainment. Percussive instruments will be made from locally sourced materials; hazel, willow and sea rolled stones. There will also be a variety of traditional drums. No prior knowledge of music or rhythm is required, it will be accessible to all who turn up. The artist will lead an assembled group in a symphony of wood, stone and body percussion. Each participant is taught a simple sequence of beats on one of the instruments and we will create our own temporary Rock Orchestra!

The performance has been designed with the tiered nature of the new outdoor performance space at the Rock. The site has its own natural amplification and resonance, which will itself become an instrument as the beats echo and resound back from the stone surfaces.
