"The Voice of Women – what does this mean?

In this context, it is one central exhibition, gathering together art created by women who work in West Cork at present.

It is an exhibition of a myriad of media and styles which represents and celebrates our current artistic community. No central theme, the colours, tones and flavours convey the multiplicity of ideas and interests of the women: in sculpting, painting, in sketching, in thread.

It is a cliché to say that, too often, women are under-represented or undervalued in society, simply for their gender. This diverse group of artists has been brought together to honour their work and to recall and remember the many women artists who have promoted and led the artistic vision in the area for more than fifty years. By so doing, these artists, who happen to be women, are placed in the centre of the art world of West Cork.

I have chosen to no longer be apologetic for my femaleness and my femininity. And I want to be respected in all of my femaleness because I deserve to be.” _ Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, We Should All Be Feminists"
