Skibbereen Arts Festival goers are invited to try out this inclusive orchestra, which is a tuned bronze percussion ensemble consisting of 30 different instruments (gongs, metallaphones, xylophones and others). The instruments have an enchanting, otherworldly sound and come from the ancient musical court tradition of Java, Indonesia. Gamelan is by its very nature participatory and sociable and all are welcome regardless of their level of musical experience. If you can hit a gong with a mallet, you can play! Participants will be amazed at how quickly they will be making beautifully sonorous music with these exotic instruments.

These workshops are suitable for all ages but very young children will need an adult on hand to help them. Your workshop tutor is Kevin McNally, gamelan teacher at UCC, UL and a member of the Irish Gamelan Orchestra.
