Listen
Location: 49 North Street
Tuesday, July 30
th, 3pm to 6pm

Listening takes many forms. We listen with our ears, we listen with our eyes, we listen with our hearts, we listen with our minds. Learning to listen through actively engaging in activities from music, art, sound and poetry can help us to tune in to our inner voices and curtail challenging times. Learning to listen can also help us to tune into those around us who might be experiencing difficulties. Come along to this community project where you will have an opportunity to explore the different ways we can listen through a number of mediums. Your engagement will help to inform and potentially become a part of a short film which will be exploring this subject.

The Happiness Ensemble
Location: 49 North Street
Wednesday, July 31
st, 11am to 1pm

The Happiness Ensemble was the brainchild of Peter Fitzpatrick in 2014. Seeking an alternate way to recover from depression and anxiety, he rediscovered his love of music and voice. The Happiness Ensemble aims to create a space where service users and providers can leave their labels at the door and enter as musicians, whatever their level of experience. The group play improvised sounds together, with the emphasis on listening to each other musically. Meeting weekly they have developed musically to create high quality sounds that wouldn’t be out of place in a downtown jazz club, comedy musical or nightclub rap battle, depending which way the improvisation swings. With an underlying camaraderie and sensitivity to each other’s talents with various instruments, voices and on the spot creativity, the group creates high vibe, unique and authentic sounds week after week. All made even more special by the ‘in the moment’ fleeting nature of their creations.
