Lara Quinn
Live Painting Demonstration and Discussion

Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre, Studio 3, Level 2

Thursday 30 July, 2.30pm to 4.30pm

Marking the beginning of her month-long residency, Lara Quinn invites visitors into her studio where she will perform a live painting demonstration before discussing the research and insights that have shaped her newest body of work.

Lara Quinn is a Cork-based visual artist and studio holder at Sample Studios. She is the recipient of the Cork county Council / Uillinn Artist in Residence Award 2026. Working across painting, performance, film and sculpture, her practice draws on autobiographical narratives, mythology, folklore and art-historical symbolism to create reimagined representations of lived experience. Influenced by magic realism, her work explores themes of identity and heritage through figurative imagery and embodied performance.

During the residency from 29 July to 29 August,, Lara will use the studio at Uillinn as a site for experimentation, working outside the routines of her usual studio practice and embracing the challenges of a condensed production period. The residency offers an opportunity to test new approaches, encourage instinctive decision-making and further expand her engagement with audiences. Lara aims to produce two new oil paintings informed by an upcoming performance-to-camera film developed under the mentorship of Irish performance artists Aideen Barry and Áine Phillips.

Lara will also premiere the first public screening of her new performance-film at Uillinn, followed by an artist’s talk exploring her research and wider practice.

Lara Quinn graduated with a BA in Fine Art from MTU Crawford College of Art and Design in 2024, having previously studied History of Art at University College Cork. Her recent awards include an Agility Award (2025) and the Cork Arts Society Student of the Year Award (2024). Lara Quinn’s mentorship with Aideen Barry and Áine Phillips is supported by the Arts Council through an Agility Award (2025).
