49 North Street – creating alchemy in the Mental Health Services

49 North Street aims to create a space, a melting pot whereby learning, therapeutic activities, creative expression and diversity can flourish. It’s about taking risks and building upon people’s strengths, working together to create a community where recovery and wellbeing thrive.

Wednesday 27 July

12pm 60 minues: Fite Fuaite Pop-Up Gaeltacht

The Fite Fuaite pop-up Gaeltacht, is a space which celebrates the beauty of the Irish language in our community. Depending on the day, there may be music, song and poetry.  You do not need to be fluent or indeed have any Irish to attend.  An interest and an open mind is all that's necessary.  The conversations are in both English and Irish and the aim is to use whatever Irish you have or learn a few new words. No matter what your level of Irish, from sadly lacking to líofa, drop in to 49 North Street for a bit of craic, comhrá & ceol. Facilitated by Paul Ó Colmáin.

2pm 2 hours: Doing the Doughnut

Let's talk about … The (household) products we tend to buy. They may look pretty, taste nice, but many are not 'harmless'. Washing-up liquid may contain microplastics. There could be glyphosate ('round-up') in our food. Slave labour may be used. Information that isn't in the list of ingredients. But it's possible to find out more and find better alternatives. If we share our findings, pool our knowledge across wider (global) networks, consumer power can be a real thing.

The West Cork Doughnut Economy Network is taking a practical look at products at a Welcome-the-Change workshop at 49, North Street. Please bring along a household product! More about Doughnut Economics: https://www.kateraworth.com/doughnut/

Facilitated by Alice Glendinning & Moze Jacobs
