Karen Hendy is an interdisciplinary artist working in a range of media in response to the natural environment. Residencies have formed an integral part of her practice in the past. She exhibited widely in Ireland and Europe while previous commissions include collaborative stage designs and community based projects. Karen is a fellow of the Ballinglen Arts Foundation.
Her work explores the relationship of the human condition and interconnectedness with the natural environment. The use of unconventional materials and rich textures have formed an integral part of her creative process, introducing peat, pigments, plastic and found objects into the pictorial surface, creating almost three dimensional surfaces.
For Skibbereen Arts Festival she will be exhibiting a series of small works on paper incorporating natural ground pigments with inks, paint and other media creating an unconventional interpretation of the Irish landscape.
